The dark side of sion has revealed itself further, a new website dedicated to the dark art and music of sion is revealed :
my secret book of dark dreams
is the soundtrack to your darkest dreams and aspirations
This project is an exploration, an aural realisation that was borne of the darkest parts of the human mind. Each piece of the journey is an interpretation of a depraved or chilling dream. Each dream is narrated here for your contextual enjoyment.
Only the voyager can decide whether these dreams are personal nightmares or aspirations.

sion “ambients” is released today

This album is a collection of my best ambient works written between 2000 and 2009.
To me ambient music is the most powerful form of music, no other form of music is able to get inside your mind and manipulate your mood as easily and strongly as ambient. It can’t invoke every mood, but it can certainly be used to bring about a calm environment, or a melancholic mood, introspection, contemplation or sadness. It can also evoke a sense of freedom and floating, a detachment from reality, it can bring about an almost trance like meditative state or simply make you sleep.
For me ambient music is very personal, I write in many styles, but I can only write ambient music when I am in a sad or melancholic frame of mind. Many of these songs are linked to poignant events or periods of my life that are reflected in the music.
Many of these songs are purposely long and slow, very subtle with minor changes and transitions, whilst some are more structured and defined. If you don’t enjoy ambient music you may not like this album, if you’ve never listened to an ambient album I hope you enjoy this one, and for those of you that do enjoy ambient I hope I have created something that you can take away and listen to time and again.

“let me take you to a dark place” is the first track of the future sion album “my secret book of dark dreams“. Here is the track with an accompanying video to give it some context.
The single bulb swings back and forth as the smell of damp fills the air. Unnoticed screams gurgle out as she begs to be freed. She already knows that the same is going to happen to her. What she witnessed is NEVER talked about. People who encounter him rarely survive, and the insane few that do are allowed to become one of us. We are the circle, we are the keepers. We chose the one way ticket from reality to be here. Its a privilege.
SILENCE! … he returns.

Current Project Update

I’m currently working on 3 music projects simultaneously:
1) sion – ambients
This the collected works of what I think are my best ambient works between 2005 and 2008. It will contain around 11 tracks and include some previously released tracks such as “moon dance”, “rain on a lonely night” and “innerspace”.
I’ve held a lot of this music back for a long time as I’m very close to it. Each song has something of me in it and those are the kind of songs that I don’t give away lightly. However, as there are probably only 3 or 4 physical CD’s with the music on in existence it seems a bit selfish and pointless to keep it to myself. Especially as my other CC released albums have proved far more popular than i ever imagined.
The tracks all need re-recording or some finalising before they’re good enough for release, and that will hopefully happen in time for Easter.
2) sion – space music
This is still largely in the conceptual stage, its an idea I’ve been wrestling with for years. I have 2 tracks that i will include in this project but they’re both in an unfinished state right now. The concept is simply – music for space travelling. Its been done many times before and I love many of the interpretations of it. You may have noticed I’m very fond of ambient music – in fact I see it as my main music form even though I’m not actively writing it at the moment. I’ll struggle on with the idea and maybe something will be born soon.
3) sion – my secret book of dark dreams
I’ve saved the best til last. This is where I’m spending all my efforts right now, and its a project I’m very excited about. Each song on this album is a separate dream, all of them are dark dreams in one form or another. I’ve written 2 of the dreams already, the 3rd is already a rough mock up in my mind and i have several ideas for the others.
This album is going to be quite different from others, mostly because I’ve been learning electric guitar for the last couple of years and I’m now at a stage where I’m happy including it in my music. Its meant a lot of changes in the way i work with music both physically and mentally, but I’m happy with the results.
Also for the first time I’ve been experimenting with imagery on this album; I have been (and will continue) to create an image for each dream and the song will relate to the image in some way. Each dream will also have some explanatory text as a sort of narration for the dream. I’ll post some of this on another blog.
